Importance of Eating RIGHT When You’re in Pain

by Dr. Steven Yen

It’s important to eat right when you’re experiencing pain! When you’re in pain, that means that something is wrong and the CAUSE of the problem needs to be fixed. I want to share the remarkable story about one of my patients, Tara, who has been diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. Tara is a correctional officer but had to take a leave of absence because for the last 10 years, she has been dealing with an extreme case of uncontrollable diarrhea. Her diarrhea had gotten to the point where it was so bad that not only could she not work anymore but she was at the point where she couldn’t leave her own home.

When Tara became a patient of mine and after I looked at all of the issues she was experiencing, I explained to her what was happening and I put her on my “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” diet plan. She found that by eating right when she was in pain and by putting good food into her body and flushing out all of the toxins that were plaguing it, her body was actually able to begin to heal itself. Tara’s body began to store nutrients for a longer amount of time and she found that by just changing the foods she was eating, the diarrhea became much less frequent. After having diarrhea for a decade, Tara wasn’t sure how her body was supposed to feel when the diet plan began treat the problems she was having with her bowel movements.

She mentions in the video that after she began on the diet and her diarrhea was slowing, she asked her husband if it was normal when she had to use the bathroom to experience cramping. This is the cramping that we all experience when we need to have a bowel movement; however, because of the diarrhea, her stomach hasn’t been full enough to give her this sensation for nearly a decade. She wasn’t sure what was normal anymore or how her body was supposed to feel when it was working properly.

By making changes in her diet, Tara is now able to live her life a little closer to how she used to. Even after ten years of living with uncontrollable diarrhea, just by making these small adjustments, Tara has seen a HUGE change in not only her daily life but in her body as well. She is able to leave her home and feel more comfortable and she’s living a much healthier life by allowing her body to help itself. She found just how important it was to eat right when she was in pain.
